How to switch from Hevy or Strong
The most valuable thing in your old tracker isn't the app — it's your history: years of workouts, records, the weight on the bar. Switching means bringing all of it, so your progress carries on from where it was instead of from zero.
Step 1. Export your history
From Hevy. Profile → Settings → Export & Import Data → Export Data → Export Workouts. Hevy builds a CSV file with all your workouts — save it or share it straight away. Step by step, with the menu names, on the switch from Hevy page.
From Strong. Profile → Settings → Export Workouts. Strong saves the CSV to your phone or offers to share it. Step by step on the switch from Strong page.
From a spreadsheet or notes. Any CSV with date, exercise, weight and reps works — or my template. Logging workouts in your phone's notes? Paste them into the bot as text and I'll sort that out too.
People write notes every which way: "bench 80x8 80x8 77.5x7", "squat 100 for 5, three sets", with dates and without. I read that kind of text, show what I understood — workouts, exercises, sets — and wait for your go-ahead in the same way. Anything I didn't understand I list separately instead of making it up.
Step 2. Upload the file
- In the bot: Settings → Import CSV. While your diary is empty, the Import history from Hevy/Strong button sits right on the main menu. Send the CSV as a document, as is.
- In the iPhone app: Settings → Import CSV, then pick the file. From Hevy there's a shortcut: choose Athlete Diary in the Share sheet.
Then I show a preview: how many workouts and sets I found, which units the file uses, which exercises I recognised and which I didn't. Until you tap Upload all, not a single entry appears in your diary.
Moving from two places at once — say, older workouts in Strong and newer ones in Hevy? Upload the files one after the other. I'll catch duplicates between them the same way as duplicates with your diary: by start minute or by the same exercises on the same day.
I read dates in the usual formats. If a date like 03/04/2025 could mean two things, I look at the other dates in the file, pick the reading with no impossible days, and tell you in the preview how I read it. A date in the future or before 2000 is a bad row, and I'll give you its number.
What I do with the file
- I split it into workouts by start time and name, not by day: two sessions on one day stay two workouts.
- I match names. Standard Hevy and Strong names ("Bench Press (Barbell)", "Lat Pulldown (Cable)") I map to the catalog myself. If you already have a similar exercise of your own and I'm not sure, I'll ask where it goes.
- I convert units. I spot a pounds column by its header and convert it to your diary's units.
- I skip warm-ups and cardio — but not silently: the report shows how many rows there were, with examples.
- I don't duplicate. A workout with the same start minute, or the same exercises on the same day, as one already in your diary gets skipped.
- I carry over notes — for exercises and for workouts.
If something landed wrong
You can undo an import for 30 days: Undo import removes exactly what that file added — workouts and new exercises — and leaves the rest of your diary alone. Fix the file or make different name choices and upload again.
If two exercises turn out to be the same one — say, "Bench Press" from Strong and your own "Barbell Bench Press" — you can merge them, and unmerge them again: I keep a log.
What to do after switching
- Check the records and charts for two or three main lifts: do they match what you remember?
- Set up a program. Hevy and Strong templates don't come over in the file — only workouts. Pick a ready one from programs or ask the AI coach to build one by days — it already sees all your imported history.
- Ask the coach "how has my year gone?" — the first question your old app couldn't answer.
- Install the app or pin the bot. The bot runs in Telegram on any phone, the app on iPhone, and they share one diary.
I work out estimated max and charts for imported workouts exactly as for the ones logged with me: same formula, same rules. So your progress line doesn't break on the day you switched — history and new workouts run on one chart.
A week on both apps
Worried about losing something along the way? Log your workouts in both for the first week. It's two seconds a set, and peace of mind is worth it. After a week you'll see everything is in place with me, and you can close the old app — keep its export just in case.
Still choosing where to move? Honest comparisons are on the pages vs Hevy and vs Strong — including how we differ on price, the coach and video reviews.
Export the CSV and send it to me — I'll show you what it'll look like before I log anything.
