Setup

Stand with the dumbbells at your sides, feet hip-width. Step back with one leg and lower until your back knee nearly touches the floor. Drive back up through the front leg.

Execution

  1. Stand holding dumbbells at your sides, feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Inhale, step back and lower until your back knee almost touches the floor.
  3. Exhale and return to the start, pushing through your front leg.

Common mistakes

  • Pushing off the back leg — the front leg stands you up, the back one only touches down.
  • Stepping back too short — let your front thigh reach parallel.
  • Torso folding toward the knee — keep your chest up.
  • Feet on one line — keep them hip-width apart for balance.
